Day 1
How do you determine what is most important in your life?
This life can throw a lot of things in front of us while telling us what should be important. This can turn into a real battle, but not a “flesh and blood” battle. Instead, it can be a fight for our very souls.
The Bible teaches that we have an enemy who wants us to be bombarded by the “worries of this life” to keep us distracted from our God-given purpose. In this Bible plan, we will be exploring priorities worth fighting for as followers of Jesus.
One of the most important priorities worth fighting for in this life is faith in God. In a world dominated by trust in the five senses, it can be easy to lose trust in an unseen God. But the bible teaches that faith is something worth fighting for. As Christians we don’t find the good life by what we see with our eyes, but instead by what we know: the truth and wisdom of God's Word. In other words, we live by faith.
Biblical faith is not just belief or willpower. It is a life pledge to someone else, a steady trust in Someone trustworthy. The foundation of this faith is that God gave His only Son Jesus to us out of love. Jesus died for our sins, and rose from the grave to open the way for eternal life to all of us who put our faith in Him. We didn’t deserve it - it is a gift. By putting our faith in Jesus, we are accepting this gift and are reconciled to God forever, becoming members of His family.
Isn’t this kind of faith worth fighting for? One of the best ways to prioritize faith is to keep our minds fixed on eternal things: loving others, forgiving wrongs, serving those in need, and exhibiting the character of Jesus. If we fight for the priorities this world offers such as money, prestige, promotion, and position, we will gain nothing…because these things will fade away. But the one who is pleasing to God by a life of faith will live forever.
Reflection:
What in your life are you prioritizing above your faith?
How can you lay down “fading priorities” and press into your faith?
Action Step:
Today, build your faith. Turn off social media and anything else clouding your mind and ignite your faith with prayer and time spent reading the Bible!
Prayer:
Lord, build my faith today. Help me focus on the eternal and not on the temporary. When people see me, let them see You. Let me fix my eyes on Your character and magnify Your name, Jesus.
