Day 9

Jan 16, 2025

Humility is a defining characteristic of a Christ-centered life. In fact, when paired with love, it is THE defining characteristic of a Christ-centered life. It's the willingness to put others before ourselves, recognizing that everything we have is a gift from God. Jesus modeled perfect humility, even though He was God, by humbling Himself to become a servant, ultimately sacrificing His life for us.

When we practice humility, we are aligning ourselves with the heart of God. It’s not about thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less. True humility allows us to see others through God’s eyes. When we see through the God-given lens of humility, we learn to truly value others and serve them, just as Christ has done for us.

In Philippians 2, Paul encourages us to follow Christ’s example—putting aside selfish desires and considering the needs of others as more important than our own. This kind of humility fosters unity, peace, and love within the community of believers.

Reflection:

- Where in your life do you struggle with pride or selfish ambition?

- Who can you serve or encourage today, reflecting the humility of Christ?

- How does Christ’s example of humility inspire you in your relationships?

Action Step:

Identify one person in your life today that you can serve selflessly. This could be offering to help, speaking encouraging words, or simply listening to their needs. Pray for a heart of humility as you act in love.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the example of Jesus, who humbled Himself to the point of death on a cross. Help me to walk in humility today, valuing others above myself. Remove any pride from my heart, and give me the eyes to see others the way You see them. Teach me to serve selflessly, just as You have served me. Amen.

Bible Verses:

Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV)

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
