The Silence Before the Miracle
After the chaos of the crucifixion, everything went quiet. The earth had shaken. Jesus had died. The disciples were scattered, and the world seemed to be in a state of mourning and confusion. The silence between Good Friday and Easter Sunday was heavy. No miracles. No words from Jesus. Just silence.
But this silence wasn’t the end of the story. In fact, it was the pause before the greatest miracle the world would ever know. The world’s Savior had been buried, and all hope seemed lost. Yet, behind the silence, God was working in ways that were unseen, preparing for the glorious resurrection that would change everything.
Matthew 27:57-61, 28:1-10
"As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there, opposite the tomb...
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples: He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him. Now I have told you.’
So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell His disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. ‘Greetings,’ He said. They came to Him, clasped His feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see Me.’”
The silence between the crucifixion and resurrection is a powerful reminder that God often works in the quiet moments, even when we can’t see Him. The disciples couldn’t understand what was happening. The world was still. There were no signs of Jesus moving, but behind the scenes, God was setting the stage for His ultimate victory over sin and death.
We may experience seasons of silence in our own lives. Times when it feels like God is distant or that nothing is happening. But just as God was working in the silence between Friday and Sunday, He’s working in the silence of our lives too. The miracle of resurrection came after the silence. Similarly, breakthroughs often come after seasons of waiting and trusting in God’s timing.
Reflect
Are you in a season of silence right now? Perhaps you’re waiting for an answer, a breakthrough, or clarity. Take heart. God is at work even when you don’t see it. Trust in His perfect timing and know that the silence is often the preparation for something incredible. Spend time today in prayer, trusting God’s plan for your life, knowing that just as He resurrected Jesus, He is able to bring new life to your circumstances.
Prayer
God, thank You for the reminder that You are always at work, even in the silence. When I don’t see the results or feel Your presence, help me to trust in Your perfect timing and believe that You are preparing something greater. Thank You for the resurrection power that brings life to all things. I trust You with my waiting, and I look forward to the miracle You will bring. Amen.
